A SLOW FOOD LONG TABLE in TREEELLE’S GARDEN ROOM
March 5, 2006 from 1 to 4pm celebrated the Taste of the Great Southern
Earthly Pleasures - food wine and art
TREE-ELLE’S POTAGER GARDEN was overflowing with organically grown vegetables and herbs for the Slow Food Sunday lunch.
The Taste of the Great Southern included - Old Kent River Wine, Denmark Farmhouse Cheese, Silver Ridge Marron, A Bit On The Side sauces, Valley Of The Giants Olive oil, Bartholomews Meadery’s ice-cream and desert wine fruits from Bridgard's Orchards, just to mention some of the suppliers.
THE SLOW FOOD MOVEMENT began 1980s in Italy when a McDonald's franchise was planned to be built in Rome. Carlo Petrini's successful demonstrations--where he and his followers brandished bowls of penne--resulted in the International Slow Food Movement; which runs counter to the fast food, fast life, non-sustainable food production and the eroding of local economies. Slow Food respects the local cultural identities, the earth's resources, sustainable animal husbandry, and the health of individual consumers. These magnificent foods are under threat from standardisation and commercialisation. The celebration of this food can ensure products continue to be made and that the food's future is guaranteed. The Slow Food Movement is about the origins and taste of the food we eat. Discover the pleasure of eating as a gastronomic and social event; while developing your senses and appreciation of food.
